Make your niche a promise
A niche is a specific audience with a specific need, seen through your experience. “Lifestyle” is broad; “easy weeknight meals for parents working late” gives someone a reason to follow. Write: I help [person] achieve [outcome] through [your approach]. List three skills you can demonstrate, three problems you have solved, and three subjects you can discuss for a year.
Research before you commit
Collect 20 audience questions from comments, forums and search suggestions. Interview five potential followers. Ask what they tried, what failed and what they want next. Compare five creators: their promise, recurring formats, most discussed posts and paid offers. Look for unanswered questions rather than copying their personality.
Run a two-week test
Choose two possible niches. Publish three useful pieces for each, using comparable formats and effort. Record relevant comments, saves per reach, profile visits and how much you enjoyed making them. Small samples are directional. Choose the niche with audience evidence and sustainable production, then keep testing.
Your first deliverable
Create a one-page positioning brief: audience, problem, promise, proof, three content pillars and one possible offer. Example: renter-friendly decorating; small-space renters; affordable reversible upgrades; your own before-and-after demonstrations. Avoid making expertise claims you cannot support.
Choose one action from this guide. Write down the deliverable, set a time budget and decide what evidence you will review next week.
