Understand the mechanism
A clear promise reduces confusion; a relevant story gives people context; a useful result gives them a reason to save or return. These are testable design hypotheses, not a secret formula for platform algorithms. Be cautious with claims about dopamine or guaranteed viral triggers.
Match the metric to the goal
Discovery: reach, impressions and qualified profile visits. Attention: average watch time and retention. Trust: saves, replies and repeat viewers. Action: clicks, opt-ins and inquiries. Business: revenue, costs and profit. Compare the same platform, format and observation window.
Use denominators consistently
Engagement by reach = interactions ÷ reach × 100. Click-through rate = clicks ÷ impressions × 100. Signup conversion = signups ÷ landing-page visits × 100. Profit = revenue minus costs. Definitions vary across platforms: state yours and do not mix reach and follower denominators.
Test one meaningful variable
Write a hypothesis, choose one change such as opening shot, publish comparable pieces and choose a review date. Compare multiple posts against your recent baseline. Organic comparisons cannot establish clean causality; topic, timing and audience differences may explain results. Log what you will repeat, change or stop.
Choose one action from this guide. Write down the deliverable, set a time budget and decide what evidence you will review next week.
